Dr. Azzam N Mansour is a Research Scientist at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division. Dr. Mansour will conduct the X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) investigations. Dr. Mansour conducts research intended at providing a fundamental understanding of the electronic and atomic structures of materials under ex situ and in situ conditions. These investigations are used to establish structure-property relationships that can be used to enhance materials’ performance characteristics (e.g. electrochemical performance, corrosion properties). His research interests include the development of novel energy storage materials for advanced lithium-ion and lithium batteries, fuel cells, and supercapacitors.

In 1976, Dr. Mansour obtained his B.S. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics at the University of Jordan (Amman, Jordan).  He also obtained his Ph.D. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics in 1983, at North Carolina State University (Raleigh, North Carolina).
